HIGH VOLTAGE TEST INSTRUMENT

Features High Voltage Test Instrument
  • Easy to use and perform ‘HIPOT’ test.
  • For prelocation of faults by voltage oscillation method alongwith computerised prelocator and voltage coupler.
  • DC voltage is continuously adjustable.
High voltage test instruments are used for testing of the dielectric strength and insulation of cables and cable installations with DC voltage and optionally also for AC voltage testing. Due to the high capacitance of the test piece, for testing of cables and cable installations a single stage or multiple rectification can be used and a complete
smoothing of the DC voltage can be dispensed. Hence instruments for testing of cables and cable installations could be kept small and portable for mobile use.

Control & Safety
Each high voltage test instrument has either a built-in or separate control unit incorporating all operational elements viz. push buttons ON/OFF, variac, current and volmeter, range selector, pilot lamps and fuses. The larger instruments can be equipped with time limit realys which switch off the instrument automatically after the pre-set period.
The high voltage is measured on the output side by means of a voltmeter which is calibrated in kV.
The design of our system limits the output current by activating a tripping circuit. The tripping mechanism works beyond a specified overload. The circuit alsoprotects the equipment if a sudden breakdown during testing occurs.
In order to provide safety for the operating personnel against a post charging effect, especially when dealing with paper and PVC insulated cables, the test object (Cable) should be subjected to a damped discharge by means of a discharge rod.

H. V. Unit
The high voltage unit comprises of a transformer which is vacuum potted, in epoxy resin making it insensitive to external influence, and a high voltage rectifier with a hermetically sealed chamber.
